Herne Hill: A Village Vibe
Walk around Herne Hill on a Saturday morning and you’ll feel like you’re in a quaint village in the countryside. There are plenty of cafes, independent shops and bars to visit, plus a farmers market on the weekend for fresh food.
One of the most attractive things about Herne Hill is that residents are lucky enough to have Brockwell Lido right on their doorstep. Brockwell Park is also a lovely space to chill out in summer.

Crystal Palace: A Sunday Times ‘Best Place to Live’
Crystal Palace made it onto the Sunday Times ‘Best Places to Live’ list in 2022, so this neighbourhood in South London had to make it onto our list too. From beautiful hilltop views across the city to brilliant schools and green spaces, this area is perfect for families with young kids.
-
Battersea: A New Neighbourhood
Ok, maybe the neighbourhood itself isn’t new but the Battersea Power Station regeneration project has definitely breathed new life into the area. The project has created a new office district with more than 3 million square feet of commercial space, alongside affordable homes. The area is also connected via one of London’s latest tube stations, at Nine Elms. Battersea is the area of the moment in South London.

Peckham: An Urban Legend
Peckham is another area that’s reinvented itself in recent years. The Evening Standard described Peckham as a ‘Hipster regeneration success story’. The area is full of artsy events, brilliant places to eat and drink, and a mix of old and new properties. And, because it’s still on the way up, you’ll find properties are much cheaper than the already-established Shoreditch and Hackney.
-
Richmond: A Town of Its Own
Despite the fact Richmond is an easy commute to central, it often feels like you’re a world away from the city. It has its own town centre with high-end shops and restaurants, plus you are right next to the river for dog walks and summer drinks on the bank of the Thames. Richmond is an affluent area, so prices are higher than some of the other neighbourhoods on our list, but you’ll find a lovely range of period properties, townhouses and mews houses.
